8 Creative Ideas to do During Quarantine(or any day)

Updated: May 28

With everything going on in the world and the majority of us staying at home, I know there are a lot of us who are in need of some ideas to help keep us sane! Although this is a weird time in the outside world, that doesn’t mean we have to live in panic or fear while we are at home. Instead, let’s use this time to do something we’ve always wanted to do, to get creative and have fun, to work on those projects we’ve always said we are too busy to work on!

Here are 8 creative ideas for you to do at home (during the quarantine and in general)!

Indoor Photoshoot

If you’re a content creator or involved in social media in any way, then you know that this is always a fun idea! Now is the perfect time to go through those old pins on your Pinterest or saved photos on Instagram and try out those ideas you’ve been wanting to create!

To help you out, i’m adding a list of some cute and fun indoor photoshoot ideas here:

  • Mirror photos→ get creative with a mirror, draw on it and use different angels!

  • Lighting→ play with the lighting coming in from the windows. Use shadows or get creative with curtains!

  • Makeup→ Try to get creative with makeup and come up with a fun concept!

  • Props→ Look through your cabinets and see what you can find! Fake flowers, gems, and anything related to arts and crafts!

Get Artsy

Grab your markers, your paint, crayons, or whatever it may be and have fun with it! Now is the time to get those creative juices flowing and create some magic!

If you aren’t sure what to create, one of my favorite things to do is hop on Youtube and follow along to a Bob Ross tutorial. It’s a challenge, it’s fun, and it’s a great way to channel that inner creative energy!

Here are some creative art ideas for you to do at-home:

  1. Rainbow Crayon art (popular on Pinterest)

  2. Paint canvases to hang up inside

  3. Paint your old clothing or shoes

  4. String painting

Film a Video

Have you ever wanted to start a Youtube channel? Now is the time! Grab your camera (or even your iphone) and bust out the list you have of saved video ideas. Right now vlogs are very popular and even though we are all staying inside, I think it would still be fun to vlog our quarantine routines to help us all feel like we aren’t alone. All you have to do is get creative, sit down, and film away!

If this isn’t something you’d be interested in, the world of Tik Tok is always a fun idea as well! I know, I know.. Tik Tok can be intimidating, but let me tell you why I love this app so much! First off, there isn’t pressure! You can be you, make videos YOU enjoy, and have fun with it! You have freedom to film and create videos that YOU want! Download the app and try it out! If you end up not liking it, just delete your account. But, I have a feeling you will enjoy it more than you think!

I feel like this is the new “Youtube” for Instagram! It’s something I have delved into and actually enjoy it A LOT more than I thought I would! Create some videos your audience would like to see and provide them with something to watch other than Netflix right now (I love Netflix, but sometimes my eyes need something else to watch for a bit haha). Dive into your video skills and test it out!

To help you out, here are a few ideas that you could film:

  1. DIY- Paint denim, home decor on a budget, recycled home crafts, body scrub or skincare products

  2. Hair or Makeup- Everyday makeup look, glowy minimal look, lazy hairstyles, heatless curls

  3. Q+A- Ask your audience to send in questions about you or find questions yourself and do a “Get to Know me” video

Whatever platform/app you use, if you’ve ever wanted to experiment with video content, now is the time! Bust out your camera and press record!

Start a Blog

If you aren’t one to get in front of the camera much but you want a creative outlet, a blog might be the choice for you! I know so many people who have always wanted to start a blog but just couldn’t find the time. Well, now is the time!

There are a few steps to this process that I will review in another future blog post, but one thing you can do to get started is to come up with topics/ideas for your posts and start typing them up! You can easily use Google Docs and start drafting up some posts. If you are unsure of what to write about, ask your online audience or friends and family. You can also make a list of things that YOU personally like to read and write down WHY you like to read them. This is a great place to start to chase those dreams of yours!

Practice Music

If you have a love for music just like I do, now is the perfect time to work on those skills! With my birthday around the corner, my husband surprised me with an early birthday gift… which ended up being a ukulele! Lately I have been using some of my time during the day to find tutorials for some of my favorite tunes, learning new skills, and having fun with it!

I think music is such a great form of therapy, not only in times like this but every single day. Turn on those karaoke youtube videos, bust out the piano, dust off the guitar and make some music!

Design a Digital Product

This is something on my list of things I want to accomplish that I have been putting off for some time now. I have so many ideas in my head that I want to bring to life and I am taking this time to actually put my foot down and get started on them!

If this sounds like you, then I hope you join me on this journey! If you are unsure of where to start or don’t know what all you need to complete your digital product, there are a lot of great free resources online! Right now, youtube has been my best friend for this project and there are a lot of great tutorials and guides on there!

If this idea interests you but you don’t know what to do, here are a few ideas for you:

  1. Create a mini course on something you’re good at and that others would like to learn.

  2. If you’re an artist, create some digital stickers to sell on etsy or instagram.

  3. Have some valuable information you’d like to share with people? Start working on an ebook!

  4. Create an instagram or snapchat filter for people to use.

  5. Create templates for people to use (instagram story templates, pinterest pin templates, etc.)

Redecorate Your Home

I know I can’t be the only one that has wanted to redecorate their home 33,892 times since being in quarantine! Now that i’ve been spending extra time inside, I have realized that I would like to rearrange certain things or add some decorations here and there. Did you know that it’s actually really good for your mental health to rearrange your home furniture/decor from time to time? Especially in times like these, I think anything that helps boost our mental health is a win!

Get on Pinterest and pin some inspo to your boards! Move your couch over 3 inches (it makes all the difference I promise), make some string art and hang it up, switch up your home decor or you can even take down some things and help minimalize your space a bit! Whatever it may be, I promise it’ll help freshen things up!

Start a Podcast

Podcasts have been on the rise for some time now and I think this is the perfect time to hop on the Podcast train if that is something you’ve been wanting to do! You don’t need a fancy mic or setup. All you need is what you’re reading this on and belief in yourself that you got this! Even if you don’t want to start recording right now, it is still the perfect time to grab a pen and paper and start writing down some ideas! Brainstorm some topics to talk about, make some outlines, and have fun with it! Remember, baby steps add up to big steps. This is a great place to start!

I hope while reading this list of ideas, it has sparked some inspiration for you! I know right now that times are tough, but let’s allow this to serve as a time that we are able to focus on ourselves and our creative dreams! We are all capable of great and amazing things, we just have to take that first step to start. Use this time that we are given indoors to do just that!

I hope you are staying safe inside! Remember, we are all in this together. Love you all so much!

Talk to you soon,
