Before I dive into this post, I want to start out by saying that I do not consider myself a professional and I am still learning about new apps, new techniques, and new designs everyday! However, I have learned some things along the way and I want to share them with you! Today, I'm spilling the beans about how I use my top favorite apps for editing photos and adding in snippets!

Editing is probably one of my favorite parts about creating content and taking photos! I love letting my brain go wild and coming up with cool edits, presets, and little graphics! I get so many questions about how I edit and what I use, so I thought I would compile it all here for ya! The best part- they are SUPER easy to use! So, buckle up, it's going to be a long one!

(p.s. I'll also be adding in links to the apps just in case you'd like to check them out! Not sponsored or affiliated, just wanted to make it easy for ya!)

1. Lightroom (mobile version)

When it comes to presets, it definitely took me a while to find my "aesthetic." After spending some money and then ending up disappointed, I decided to make my own and now have a couple different versions of it! It will continue to evolve and I'm sure one day I'll change it up, but for now I'm super happy with it!

Lightroom has been a game changer when it comes to editing photos and creating my presets! And hey, guess what, IT'S FREE! Woo hoo! There is a desktop version, but that costs money and honestly, unless your a photographer, graphic designer, or something along those lines, then the mobile app is all you need!

To use the app, you start by opening the app, uploading your photos you want to edit, and then hit the "preset" button and there will be pre built in preset that Lightroom provides, but you can start playing with colors, lighting, contrast, and other effects and once you are happy, hit those 3 little dots in the top right corner and click on "create preset.' Once you give your preset a name, you've made your own preset! Yay! I have found that with each photo there will always be tweaks that will need to be made and I am constantly updating my preset a little here and there. Also, remember that lighting in photos is always different! So, play around with it, and have fun! You will get there!

2. Afterlight

This app was one that I knew a lot people used, but never understood the hype. It wasn't until a couple months ago that I started playing around and learned more about it's features that I fell in love with it! It does cost a couple bucks, but honestly, it is SO worth it!

Once you open the app, you'll be directed to your camera roll and asked to choose a photo. After you've picked one, the tools will show up at the bottom of the screen. Typically, I instantly go to the icon that has two circles looped together. This is where you can add dust effects (tip- if you keep clicking on the effect you chose, it will flip the overlays different ways), add cool lighting edits to your photos, and so much more!

One of my favorite things about the app is that it has built in stickers, so instead of building one from scratch, it's already there for me! These are located under the icon with the letter "A" and pen, it should be the last one on the tool bar. You can then either add text to your photos, or hit the "artwork" button and your stickers will pop right up- PLUS they are customizable! This feature is what I used to edit for my recent honeymoon announcement post! I just clicked on the sticker, added some color, erased the parts I didn't need (to give it the effect that the words were behind me), and viola! Easy peezy, lemon squeezy!

3. Adobe Sketch

Okay, for all of you out there that have been wondering how I add fun colorful graphics to my photos, this is my main squeeze for that! Seriously, this app has my back and it is also free! Woo hoo!

Don't worry, you don't need a background in art or drawing to know how to navigate this app! All you have to do is start with a blank canvas or add a photo, choose a brush of your liking (change the flow, color, and size if you'd like) and then start getting creative! There are so many other details and tools that even I am still learning how to use, but for now, this has been serving me well and I get to create some amazing edits!

This is what I used to edit in this rainbow, which I get A LOT of questions about, so.. the secrets out! Now you can go make some amazing rainbows, stars, hearts, flowers... whatever your brilliant mind can come up with!

4. Over

This app can be a little daunting because there are so many different things to choose from and all the pretty stuff you have to pay for, BUT if you do some searching you can find some pretty cool graphics, layovers, and stickers to edit your photos with!

Since I love ya sooooo much, I'm also going to add in my top 3 searches that I usually find some great edits under so you don't have to go digging like I did!

1. Paint

2. Glitter

3. Flowers

Of course there are SO many more options, but I have found that these three have great free options that fit what I am looking for! You can even download stickers or transparent images and layer them on top of images of you, scenery, or anything you want!

Here is a before (top) and after (bottom) where I added in some butterflies with this app! I also added some dust and light with the Afterlight app to give it a little more "umph," ya know?

This is one that you'll probably have to explore a bit and see what you find, but there's so many different options and you can do a lot with just this little app!

The beauty about creating content and art is that in today's world we have so many resources! There are so many fun and amazing apps out there that can help bring your ideas to life. For me, practicing and experimenting with apps has led to some of my best work, but remember... it should be FUN and ENJOYABLE!
